August 2020

After the storms, the woods are resplendent, birch leaves the first to fall…

Birch-leaf mosaic,
the forest a cathedral,
stained-glass canopy.

And more rain…

Streams, drains, gullies sing
their Hallelujah chorus.
All else is silenced.

Still so much rain…

Audible texture:
the dark prickles with soft rain;
Hissing black white noise.

Some great days – but some really heavy rains…

The rain dominates:
swamps the air; muddies the light;
drowns out the birdsong.
