January 2016

Listening to the rain…

Gullies ring, drains sing,
Streams chorus to leaf-drumming.
Music of the rain.

Interminable storms and unceasing rain….happy new year!

Dark, low, winter sky.
The trees sighing and moaning.
The road, two tear tracks.

Great light, these mid-winter evenings…

Trees scratch inky lines
on a blotting paper sky.
Ink blots, the crow flock.

More – or continuous – storms, thankful to be in the shelter of the trees…

Grizzled old oak trees
rake the storm with stretched talons.
Tearing it to shreds.

Don’t mess with the King of the Birds…

A wren gives out yards,
scolds any – all trespassers.
Berates everyone.
