Fairy Fort<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 – Translation of ‘S\u00ed’<\/a><\/p>\n

Published in A Bowl of Mysteries: Poetry Ireland Introductions Selected Poems 2017.<\/a>\u00a0Different versions of \u2018S\u00ed\u2019 (\u2018Fairy Fort\u2019) were published by USA e-journals Pirene\u2019s Fountain<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Summer 2012), and Setu: A Bilingual Journal of Literature, Arts & Culture<\/em> (May 2017). It was substantially rewritten following the workshop with Nuala N\u00ed Dhomhnaill in Poetry Ireland in 2017.<\/p>\n

I stumbled on a fairy fort
\non an October hill
\nwith the wind making
\nseashore noises
\nin a holly tree
\nthe shape of a peacock.<\/p>\n

It turned from
\na brambly hedge
\nto a green and amber
\nbowl of mysteries
\nand whispers
\nwith one step up over a threshold of quartz.<\/p>\n

Inside was just as wild,
\nthe flailing, rusty fringes
\nMexican-waving no shelter,
\nthe sky a frosted pane
\nand a tumble of crows,
\nthe fox-red bracken
\nfeathering dark rabbit-holes.<\/p>\n

I circled the inside
\nthree times, sunwise
\nand nothing happened.
\nOr maybe I emerged into a
\nWorld forever changed
