Welcome to the land of Saints and Scholars,
\nloose your belt, turn \u2018round your collar
\nand worship the Almighty Dollar
\n– the One Thing that can\u2019t fail!
\nForget the fact that our Culture\u2019s sold,
\nShut up! Don\u2019t think! Do as your told!
\nBut it doesn\u2019t seem too wise to hold
\na Celtic Tiger by the tail!<\/p>\n

Out T.D.s say we\u2019ve never had it so good,
\nthat\u2019s it due to them is understood
\nand if we want it to continue then we should
\nvote them at the next ballot.
\nThey spin it up \u2018til we\u2019re all hysterical
\nabout our so-called \u201ceconomic miracle\u201d
\nbut when politicians start waxing lyrical
\nI want to check my wallet!<\/p>\n

\nBut in our headlong flight from Poverty
\nThe Market has become our Holy Grail.
\nIt\u2019s time to wake up to the gravity of our situation:
\nWe\u2019ve got a Tiger by the Tail!<\/p>\n

Our new God is the mighty Car:
\nit gives us status, sex and power
\nand murders hundreds every year
\n– but Progress can\u2019t be stopped.
\nWe\u2019ll need, of course, more motorways,
\nmiles and miles of deadly grey,
\ntoo bad that oakwood\u2019s in the way
\n– another treasure chopped.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a 40% illiteracy and a six-month wait for surgery
\n– it\u2019s just as well our GNP is going through the roof!
\nSpeaking of which, a house deposit now costs more
\nthan the National Debt of Parador
\nand with every day it grows more dire
\nfor those outside the loop.<\/p>\n

But the Economy is not our only \u201cgrowth\u201d
\n– so are the figures for drug abuse
\nand the disturbing numbers of our youth
\ncommitting suicide.
\nAnd in the scramble to get more,
\nthe weaker sections are ignored
\nand the gap between rich and poor
