{"id":641,"date":"2012-03-04T14:44:38","date_gmt":"2012-03-04T14:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/paulocolmain.com\/?page_id=641"},"modified":"2012-03-04T14:44:38","modified_gmt":"2012-03-04T14:44:38","slug":"some-kind-of-poet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/paulocolmain.com\/?page_id=641","title":{"rendered":"Some Kind of Poet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Some Kind of Poet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sitting in a garret, chewing a pen and tearing out my hair,<br \/>\nSurrounded by the VIPs of literary ghosts:<br \/>\nPaddy Kavanagh, W.B., Michael Hartnett looking reproachfully,<br \/>\nJust who the Hell would want to be,<br \/>\nWho the Hell would want to<br \/>\nWho the Hell would want to be a poet?<\/p>\n<p>I see my old schoolmates and they\u2019re driving around in their flashy cars,<br \/>\nSipping cocktails on their yachts while I can barely keep afloat.<br \/>\nThey say, \u201ceveryone gets what they\u2019re worth in this market-based \u2018civilisation\u2019,\u201d<br \/>\nIt seems that there\u2019s not much worth,<br \/>\nIt seems that there\u2019s not much worth,<br \/>\nIt seems that there\u2019s not much worth in a poet.<\/p>\n<p>And it comes as no surprise<br \/>\nThat I fail to open everybody\u2019s eyes<br \/>\nTo the fact that I deserve the Nobel Prize!<\/p>\n<p>They say around our way if you spend a night on a mountaintop<br \/>\n&#8211; and you know, there\u2019s a lot of truth in a lot of those old pishogues-<br \/>\nThey say that if you spend a whole night alone on a mountaintop,<br \/>\nYou\u2019ll either wake up mad,<br \/>\nYou\u2019ll either wake up mad,<br \/>\nYou\u2019ll either wake up mad&#8230;or a poet!<\/p>\n<p>Well, I\u2019ve spent many a night upon a bare mountain summit,<br \/>\nHowling at the moon \u2018til I\u2019ve hurt my throat,<br \/>\nAnd you know that every poet is a lunatic, of course,<br \/>\nBut is every lunatic,<br \/>\nIs every lunatic,<br \/>\nIs every lunatic a poet?<\/p>\n<p>Paddy Kavanagh, I\u2019ve you to thank,<br \/>\nIf not for you, I could have money in the bank,<br \/>\nBut now it seems I\u2019ll spend my days<br \/>\nJust another nutter muttering poems on the Grand Canal bank!<\/p>\n<p>But I don\u2019t care! I don\u2019t care! I don\u2019t care!<br \/>\nThe only thing I want to be,<br \/>\nThe only thing I want to be,<br \/>\nThe only thing I want to be<br \/>\nIs some kind of poet.<br \/>\nSome kind of poet.
