January ’09

Towards dusk, late January…

Shadows stretch themselves,
Column of cows files homeward,
Evening closes in.

On a grey morning…

Swan apostrophes
punctuate the morning gloom.
Birds cry italics.

This week’s offering is a sequence of haiku – I love playing with the form. Moreover, it’s good for my natural verbosity to have to restrain myself!

Galley Head squinting.
The sea rolling like tin-foil.
A fish jack-knifes clear.

Yellow-toed egret
gathers up his legs and leaves.
A curlew emotes.

The oyster-catchers
are distinctly unimpressed.
Or too self-possessed.
