Dhúisíos aréir

(Translation below)

Dhúisíos aréir, i lár na hoíche, do Aonghus Óg a bhíos ag guí. Dhúisíos aréir, ochón, ochón, gan chuideachta ach mo bhrón.

Dhúisíos aréir, i lár thromluí, mothúcán folamh i mo chroí. Dhúisíos aréir, is mise corraithe, chugham féin a bhíos ag borradh.

Dhúisíos aréir, i ndroch-sceitimíní, mo shaol uilig ina smidiríní. Dhúisíos aréir, go deimhin i dtocht, ‘is tuargaint fhiachmhar i m’ucht.

Dhúisíos aréir, arís, athuair, timpeall orm scamall fuar. Dhúisíos aréir, faraor, arís, tachta, gafa, greamaithe i mbís.

Dhúisíos aréir, b’fhada ‘n oíche, ní b’fhaide fós a bhíos ag caoineadh. Dhúisíos aréir, i ndubhlinn mhór, ‘s mé ag dul faoi don tríú uair.

Dhúisíos aréir, as mo stuaim, ag bá go mall in aigéan gruaime. Dhúisíos aréir, i lár na hoíche, codladh arís, ní dhéanfad choíche.

I awoke last night

I awoke last night,  in the middle of the night, and prayed to Aonghus Óg

I awoke last night, ochón, ochón, only sadness for company

I awoke last night, in the middle of a nightmare, an empty feeling in my heart

I awoke last night, shaking, moved, angry with myself

I awoke last night, in a terrible state, my whole life in smithereens

I awoke last night, deeply emotional, fierce pounding in my chest

I awoke last night, again, another time, all around me a cold cloud

I awoke last night, alas, again, stuck, caught, trapped in a vice

I awoke last night, a long night, but longer still my crying

I awoke last night, in a great black pool, going down for the third time

I awoke last night, out of my senses, slowly drowning in an ocean of darkness.

I awoke last night, in the middle of the night, sleep again, I’ll never have.
