Suantraí

Suantraí                                    (translation below)

Bí séimh, ciúin,
Téir chun suain,
Éist le giúin bhinn na tiúine na suantraí.
Caill do chúraimí,
Ná bí buartha faoi,
Raghad go buan i do leith, a rún,
Ag crónán go caoin an duan seo.

Stuamaigh, stuamaigh, glac go suaimhneach é,
Fág do ghruaime i gcúram an dhuanaire.
Ciúnaigh, ciúnaigh, dún do shúile,
Lig d’ualaí uamhnacha díot, a mhuirnín buartha.

A stór, a chroí gheal,
Ná bí ag caoineadh,
Fanfad i mo shuí leat i rith na hoíche,
Lámh le lámh leat,
Ar ghrá mo ghrá duit,
Fanfad ‘do theannta go deo ‘is choíche,
Ag crónán go caoin an shuantraí.

Lullabye       (Suantraí)

Be calm, be quiet,
Find your peace,
Listen to the sweet drone of the tune of this lullabye,
Lose your cares,
Don’t be worried,
I‘ll always take your part, my darling,
Humming gently this poem.

Calm yourself, calm yourself, take it all gently.
Leave your cares in the care of the poet,
Quieten, quieten, close your eyes,
Let your terrible burdens fall away, my troubled darling.

My darling, my bright heart,
Don’t be crying,
I’ll stay beside you all through the night,
Hand in hand with you,
Because of my love for you,
I’ll stay beside you forever and always,
Gently humming this lullabye.
