Lig dom dúiseacht

Let me wake up       (Lig dom dúiseacht)

If I were a poem, you have written me.
If I were a song, you have sung me.
If I were a wish, you have used me up.
If I were a kiss, you have blown me away.

Why do we always seem to hurt the ones we’re near?
Our hearts say one thing but our heads don’t seem to hear.
All our resolutions seem to vanish in the air, they disappear!

If you were a door, I have slammed you shut.
If you were a light, I have turned you out.
If you were a trunk, I have closed you and locked you.
If you were the key, I have thrown you away.

Why do we always seem to hurt the ones we’re near?
Our hearts say one thing but our heads don’t seem to hear.
All our resolutions seem to vanish in the air: they disappear!

If we are a bridge, we are burning.
If we are a ship, we are sinking.
If we are a fire, we are turning to ashes.
If we are a wind, we have blown us away.

If it’s not too late, please forgive me.
If this is a dream, let me wake up.
